Mariella Smilas

Mariella’s practice explores the relationship between memory, language and materiality. She creates layered works from fragments of text, personal memories and lived experiences, using repetition, erasure and stitching to gradually transform language. Through this process, text becomes fragmented and abstract, reflecting how memory is continually formed, altered and reconstructed.
