Google Wallet Passes

A Google Wallet pass is the event ticket a guest adds on Android. Its face has a fixed shape that Google draws: the issuer and logo at the top, the venue and event name as the title, a date and time row, then up to three short card rows and the QR code, with a details view behind it. The Google Wallet tab of the designer controls the parts that are yours to set.

Basics

Background colour sets the colour of the pass. Google chooses the text colour itself, black or white for legibility against your background, and offers no way to set it. This is the one place the two wallets differ on colour: Apple Wallet’s text colour can be customised, Google Wallet’s cannot. The preview derives it the same way Google does for clearly light or dark backgrounds; for a mid-tone or vivid background, confirm on a device.

Logo text is what Google calls the issuer name, shown beside the round logo at the top. Google always shows one, so an empty field falls back to your Apple Wallet logo text, and failing that to your organisation name. With a wide logo uploaded, the whole text row is replaced by the image and no issuer name is shown at all.

Event details

Two lines of the pass face are yours to word, under Event details:

  • Event name, the large title. Clear it to go back to the event’s own name.
  • Venue name, the small line above the title. Clear it to go back to the event’s location name.

Both accept variables, and both start as the event’s own name and location. Clearing a field restores that default rather than leaving the line empty, so a pass never goes out with a blank title.

One thing to be aware of: the date and time row is Google’s own. It is drawn from each guest’s booking time and formatted for the guest’s device, and it cannot be relabelled, restyled or removed.

Images

All images are PNG, under 5 MB. Sizes are maximums; a smaller file is fine.

Image Maximum size Where it appears
Logo 660 × 660 px Cropped to a circle beside the issuer name
Wide logo 1280 × 400 px Replaces the round logo and the text row entirely
Hero 1032 × 336 px Optional full-width banner at the foot of the pass

Leave the logo empty and the pass carries the ARTSVP mark. An empty hero is not drawn. Choose either a round logo or a wide logo: the wide logo wins when both are present, exactly as Google renders it.

Fields

Under Pass fields, rows have a header and a body. Values can be plain text or variables inserted with the quill beside any value.

Section Rows Where it appears
Card rows up to 3 On the pass face, under the date and time
Pass details up to 25 In the details view behind the pass

A new design has no card rows, because Google already places the date and time on the face and a time row would duplicate it. The details start with the address, guest name, email, guest code and a tickets link. A row with neither header nor body is dropped when you save.
